Police arrested an auto driver who beheaded his wife in Nalasopara on Friday.
Jitendra Ramjiyavan yadav, 30, also cut off his 28-year-old wife Saroja’s palms. He put the severed body parts in a bucket and fled at dawn. The Tulinj police managed to catch him by noon. He will be produced before the Vasai court on Saturday.
The couple lived in Sanjay Yadav chawl in Nalasopara with their three children. Yadav was an autorickshaw driver on the Dahisar route and would frequently come hone late at night,said inspector Kishore Khairnar of Tulinj police station.
“The couple fought daily as the man suspected his wife’s character,” said neighbours.
When Yadav came home on Thursday night, the couple fought again, when Yadav, in a fit of rage, picked up a knife and attacked his wife. He beheaded her and chopped off her palms too. Then he put them in a bucket and fled from the spot, said the police.
“When neighbours saw blood around the place, they alerted us and laid a trap to nab Yadav,” said Khairnar . “We caught him when he was on his way to Kaman to meet his father. We have charged him under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.He showed no remorse for the act, and we are examining the extra marital affair angle.”
